'번역' K: 지붕의 벽지를 바꾸고 싶어./ E: 벽지를? 비가 오면 당장
망가지지 않을까?/ K: 물이 새지만 않으면 괜찮겠지./ E: 아하, '천장'에
벽지를 바꾸고 싶다는 말이구나.
'have a roof over one's head'라는 말은 '살 곳이 있다'는 뜻이다.
"The refugees were thankful to finally have a roof over their heads
after their long trek."(피난민들은 오랜 시간 헤맨 끝에 마침내 살 곳을
얻은 것에 대해 감사했다.) 또한, 사람들이 "한 지붕 아래 산다"는 말은
'under the same roof'를 써서 표현할 수 있다. "It's not always easy
living under the same roof as your in-laws." (배우자의 가족들과 한
지붕 아래 사는 것은 그리 쉬운 일이 아니다.)
