Bumper-size food packages are growing more popular as Koreans want value for money amid soaring inflation or simply try to fill the emptiness inside.
Convenience store chain GS25 sells more than 30,000 of Paldo Food’s Jumbo Dosirak instant noodles a week with 8.5 servings per pack. Long lines formed in front of some convenience stores, and they are even being resold in flea markets for a hefty markup.
E-Mart 24 is selling double packs of supersized gimbap, and HY has sold 100 million 280-mL Yakult bottles that are four times the size of the standard product since they came on the market in 2015.
Starbucks now offers a new “trenta” size of caffeinated beverages here which is even bigger than the “venti” gallon and has only been available in North America so far. In Starbucks Italian, trenta means 30 oz. or just short of a liter.
Ottogi recently released an instant noodle package that is 1.6 times bigger than the standard product, while Lotte Wellfood has come out with a bumper-size Choco Pie.
