Korea Post is issuing commemorative stamps marking the successful launch of Korea's fully homegrown space rocket, the Nuri, in June.
The agency said on Thursday that 656,000 stamps featuring the Nuri will come out on Dec. 16. They will show the rocket lifting off with white vapor billowing out at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province.
The stamps can be purchased at post offices or online at www.epost.go.kr.
"Nuri" is an old Korean word for "world," and refers to the rocket's mission to venture into the new world of space. Development of the rocket began in 2010 with the aim of putting a 1.5-ton satellite into orbit at an altitude of 600 km to 800 km.
After its launch on June 21, the Nuri placed a dummy satellite in orbit and successfully communicated with the ground station.
The successful mission made Korea the seventh country in the world to send a satellite into space with its own technology.
