The National Election Commission is bending over backwards to increase voter turnout in local elections on June 13, with early voting getting underway at 3,512 polling stations across the country on Friday and Saturday.
The NEC fears that voter attention is slipping as all eyes are on the U.S.-North Korea summit on June 12 in Singapore.
Some 76.5 percent of respondents said they will vote under any circumstances in a poll released by the NEC on Thursday.
The NEC "will increase voter turnout by providing convenience to the participants in early voting as well as for the handicapped and foreign-born voters," an official pledged.
It also opened a new website and started a mobile service. A smartphone app will help find voters find the nearest polling stations and guide them there.
Early voting was introduced in 2013.
It takes place from 6 a.m. to 6. p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Voters can bring an ID card to any polling station throughout the country without having to report to authorities in advance.
