The first ladies of the U.S. and Korea met for tea and a stroll as their husbands held summit talks on Tuesday.

Kim Jung-sook treated her counterpart Melania Trump to a snack made with persimmons from trees in the Cheong Wa Dae compound.

"I welcome you here with all my heart," Kim told Trump on arrival at Cheong Wa Dae in the early afternoon. "I believe the state visit… will help enhance peace in Korea and deepen trust between the two countries."

The U.S. first lady thanked Kim for the "warm welcome."

Earlier in the day, Melania Trump made a speech at an event hosted by the American Embassy in Seoul aimed at promoting women's sports.

She said the whole world is looking forward to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and added that she hopes many young women will be able to participate in sports.
