North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was subject to an assassination attempt last year and security has since been drastically beefed up, the RAND Corporation claims.
In the report titled "Preparing for Possibility of a North Korean Collapse," the military-oriented think tank cites unconfirmed information that security around Kim has been tightened since the attempt last year.
The report then goes on to recommend strategies in case another attempt is successful and the regime collapses.
They "need to address North Korean attitudes toward unification, providing humanitarian assistance to North Korea, demobilizing the North Korean military and security services, handling potential Chinese intervention in a collapse, and other key issues," it said.
The report added that the collapse of the North Korean regime is "only a matter of time because North Korea is a failing state."
