North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's grandson Han-sol says being Kim Jong-il's grandson "comes with a lot of baggage" and "it's guilt by association," U.S. Public Radio International reported Thursday.
Admitted to the United World College in Mostar, an international school in Bosnia, Han-sol condemned the press harassment he has suffered at the school, saying being Kim Jong-il's grandson was not his choice. "It's guilt by association... All I want to do is study and live my life," he said.
Asked about a Facebook poll where he reportedly clicked a preference for democracy over communism, Han-sol said, "It was a silly poll... In communism and democracy, you have both good and bad."
He said he has not lived in North Korea since he was two years old, though he visits every summer. Most recently, he lived with his father in Macau, where he went to another international school, PRI quoted him as saying. "I know almost nothing about [North] Korea. Most of what I know is from you guys" in the press.
His father is Kim Jong-il's eldest son Jong-nam. Since mid-October, he has been at the Bosnian school without a personal bodyguard.
