Tottenham Hotspur, a professional football club in the Premier League, has stated that they are not interested in selling Son Heung-min (32) despite an offer from a Saudi Arabian league club.
UK-based publication ‘Football Insider’ reported on Feb. 27 (Korean time), that Tottenham is expected to start negotiations regarding extending the contract with Son Heung-min soon. According to sources, one of Saudi Arabia’s football clubs is interested in signing Son, but the player has no intention of accepting any offers.
According to ‘TEAMtalk’, a British media outlet, Tottenham has taken steps to resolve an issue concerned with Son Heung-min. The media reported that Informal discussions between the club and the player have already taken place, which will be followed by official discussions after the current season ends.
A Saudi club has previously shown interest in signing the S. Korean footballer. ‘The Boot Room’, another UK media outlet, has reported that Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia wants to sign Son Heung-min and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah ahead of the summer transfer season.
Previously, they had attempted to sign Richarlison in September last year but ran out of time to finalize the deal. Now, they are preparing to sign players again this summer, with their dream being to sign both Son Heung-min and Salah.
It continued, “Al Ittihad is ready to pour money into signing Son and Salah. The contract between Son and Tottenham ends in the summer of 2025, presenting Tottenham with the last opportunity to make a significant amount of money by selling Son.”
It has been reported that despite Son Heung-min’s refusal, a Saudi league has expressed continuous interest in signing him. Last June, it was reported that a Saudi club, Al Ittihad, was preparing to sign Son with a transfer fee of 65 million dollars, according to ESPN from the United States.
Upon learning about the news, Son expressed that he still has goals to achieve in the English Premier League and will strive to give his best performance for Tottenham.
In a mixed zone interview after a match against El Salvador in June last year, Son Heung-min stated, “If my intention was to join the Saudi League, I wouldn’t be here(laughs). I am passionate about football, and although money is important, playing in the Premier League has always been my dream.”
He further added, “In the past, Ki Sung-yueng, the captain of the Korean national football team, also said that money is not the driving factor for choosing a league. It is not of utmost importance to me at the moment.”
Son emphasized, “The pride in football and playing in the league I love is important to me.”
Despite recent reports that the Saudi club is still interested in signing Son Heung-min, Tottenham is preparing to offer the S. Korean a new contract.
