Actress Shin Ae-ra is eager to test herself with different kinds of roles after recently returning to acting following a long break.
Shin resumed her career with the recently concluded tvN series "Record of Youth" after a seven-year break, during which she furthered her studies in the U.S., with her children accompanying her.
The series, a coming-of-age drama that finished airing on Oct. 27, depicts ambitious young people striving for success. Her character is a supportive mother who tries to make her son a film star.
Asked if she expected the series to be a hit, she said, "I knew it would be popular, as heartthrob Park Bo-gum starred in it."
She added, "I decided to appear in the series as it was a heart-warming drama, so I would be able to watch it with my daughters, and it would make us think about the affection and love between family members and friends."
Appearing in the series revived Shin's passion for acting.
"I was lucky to take lead roles when I was young. Now I hope to take on roles that interest me, regardless of whether they're major or minor roles," she said. "I want to try various characters and projects. I'd like to play the role of a villain and appear in a comedy or a sitcom. I want to show the many different sides of myself."
