HP Inc. is making bold moves to stay ahead in today’s rapidly evolving tech landscape, unveiling its largest-ever portfolio of AI PCs tailored for advanced AI workloads. Central to this initiative is the AI Creation Center, a comprehensive workstation solution that integrates Z by HP AI Studio software with Nvidia’s NGC libraries, enabling data scientists to customize both open-source and private AI models securely.

At the heart of this offering is Z by HP AI Studio, which streamlines workflows for AI, machine learning, and data science projects by integrating data, programming, and computing. The platform facilitates seamless collaboration, allowing teams to organize data remotely and share insights in real time. Recently, HP enhanced Z by HP AI Studio with Galileo, a powerful feature designed to detect and correct hallucinations, drift, and bias in AI models while proactively safeguarding against inaccurate outputs. These updates position HP as the only manufacturer offering an AI workstation platform with built-in generative AI trust for Large Language Model (LLM) development.

In an exclusive interview with ChosunBiz during his visit to Seoul for the Smartcloud Show, a leading IT forum, Jim Nottingham, senior vice president and division president of Advanced Compute and Solutions at HP Inc., provided deeper insights into these innovations. Nottingham emphasized the importance of customer collaboration in shaping HP’s AI solutions:

“When we were developing tools like the Z by HP Data Science Stack Manager, we found there was no unified platform for collaboration among data scientists,” Nottingham explained, outlining how HP decided to develop Z by HP AI Studio. “Our teams asked, ‘What platform do you use for collaboration?’ The answer was, ‘There isn’t one.’ So, we decided to create one from scratch.”

HP spent four years refining the platform, incorporating feedback from global competitions held in collaboration with the Kaggle community. Through this process, Z by HP AI Studio evolved into a comprehensive workbench for fine-tuning machine learning models. Already available in the U.S. and U.K., HP plans to expand its reach globally, including South Korea, by 2025.

Nottingham’s customer-centric philosophy has guided his career since he joined HP in 1992 as an R&D engineer after earning his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Utah State University.

“For a long time, I was obsessed with developing cutting-edge technology,” Nottingham reflected. “I was surprised that some of our coolest innovations were only marginally accepted. It wasn’t until I visited customers to understand their needs that I realized even the best technology is worthless if it doesn’t solve their problems.”

He continued, “Innovation isn’t just about having a great invention; it’s about creating solutions that customers feel change the way they work. This understanding was eye-opening for me. In my business management role, I dedicate significant time to helping customers because we’re here to solve their problems, and this philosophy drives me.”

This customer-centric approach aligns with HP’s core values. “To innovate, we must place the customer at the center of everything we do,” Nottingham asserted. “I view my role as supporting my sales teams, dedicating my personal time to meet and learn from customers, which I consider incredibly important.”

Nottingham also emphasized HP’s partnerships with industry leaders like Nvidia, Intel, and AMD to deliver exceptional performance across their product lines. “No customer ever thinks they have too much performance,” Nottingham noted. To meet these demands, HP’s workstations undergo rigorous testing, with some exceeding 360,000 hours of validation to ensure reliability and top-tier performance.

Beyond performance, HP is driving innovation in sustainability. Nottingham stressed that HP’s strategy extends to environmental responsibility, with the company earning EPEAT Gold certification for its products. By 2025, HP plans to eliminate single-use plastics and incorporate reclaimed ocean-bound plastics into its manufacturing processes. “We invest a lot in sustainability to deliver on our commitment to reduce our environmental impact,” Nottingham added.
