Samsung Electronics has thrown down the gauntlet to Roborock, which has been dominating the South Korean robot vacuum cleaner market. The company announced plans to enter the market with its first-ever all-in-one robot vacuum cleaner and expand sales both online and offline.
Samsung Electronics revealed its entry into the robot vacuum cleaner market on April 4, with the official launch of the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo. This all-in-one robot vacuum cleaner offers dust suction, mopping, automatic cleaning, and steam sterilization functions.
Notably, it boasts the first-of-its-kind steam sterilization feature in South Korea. Here’s how it works: first, the mop undergoes automatic cleaning with hot steam and water, then sterilization with steam at 100℃, and finally drying with a 55℃ hot air stream. According to the company, steam sterilization eliminates 99.99% of various bacteria, including E. coli, while hot air drying reduces odor concerns.
The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo also comes equipped with advanced AI features. Utilizing the ‘Floor Detect’ function, it customizes cleaning modes by distinguishing floor environments such as hardwood and carpet using five sensors including ultrasonic sensors. If the robot vacuum cleaner transitions from mopping the hardwood floor to the carpet, it adjusts the mop attached to the bottom or detaches it entirely, depending on the length of the carpet fibers. This feature is designed to prevent carpets from getting wet or contaminated.
Furthermore, it employs a front camera sensor trained on 1.7 million object data to recognize and avoid various obstacles, including items that previous models may not have recognized, such as mobile phone cables or mats.
With cameras and LiDAR sensors installed, security has also been significantly reinforced. Prior to its release, it received the highest grade of Diamond from global certification firm UL Solutions for IoT security, showcasing its industry-leading security measures.
Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, remarked during a media event presenting the 2024 line of Bespoke AI home appliances the previous day, “By leveraging Samsung’s security system Knox, we have obtained the highest grade from global certification agencies.” He added, “We consider security to be our greatest differentiator, and we plan to continue improving it in the future.”
The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo is available in two colors, Satin Greige and Satin Charcoal, with a price tag of 1.79 million won.
