Workers at production lines of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have postponed their summer holidays as sales of air conditioners grew two-fold compared to previous years.
Samsung on Monday said it postponed the summer break for staff at its Gwangju plant for about two weeks to mid-August. LG took a similar measure whereby workers at its Changwon plant will begin taking summer holidays from the second week of August, one week later than last year.
The high-demand season for air conditioners is normally between May and July but is expected to last until mid-August this year as the unusually prolonged rainy season and muggy hot temperatures continue.
