Mobile phone maker Pantech is unveiling its ultra-slim smartphone "Flex," which won this year's Red Dot Design Award, one of the world's top three design prizes. Pantech said on Wednesday it will market the Flex in the U.S. through mobile service provider AT&T.
Measuring 7.95 mm in thickness and weighing just 132 g, the Flex is the thinnest LTE smartphone Pantech has released so far. Its back panel is made of plastic and stainless steel, which makes the handset feel sturdy despite being so thin.
For those who are new to smartphones, the Flex offers an "easy experience" mode, which shows basic functions such as the time, date and weather on the home screen in a clearly organized, easy-to-read format. It also allows the user to make calls, check messages, search the Web, take photos and handle other basic functions without having to go through numerous steps. The Android-based Flex also features a 4.3-inch super AMOLED screen and an 8-megapixel camera.
Pantech unveiled its first LTE smartphone "Breakout" in North America last year, followed by the "Burst" and "Marauder."
