The sweltering weather last month was a boon for department stores around the country.
Lotte Department Store's sales in August jumped 10.8 percent from a year ago thanks to a surge in demand for sports and outdoor items. Sales of imported luxury goods also shot up more than 20 percent.
Hyundai Department Store saw its sales at its 12 branches nationwide increase 14.8 percent on-year. Sales of imported clothes and sports equipments led the upward trend, increasing 32.7 and 28.6 percent respectively.
The heat wave also benefited Shinsegae Department Store, whose sales last month rose by 24.1 percent from a year ago.
