Strike by Busan Subway Workers Averted
The southeastern city of Busan was able to avert a full-fledged strike by subway workers with overnight negotiations producing a breakthrough agreement, Tuesday, between labor and management. Though both sides managed to prevent labor action in the run-up to the World Cup soccer finals, they agreed to meet again at a later date to tackle key sticking points such as reinstating laid-off workers and contracting subway ticket sales. The averted strike comes amid calls by the government to suspend labor negotiations during the global sporting event, for the sake of the country's international image.
