2002 Seoul Drum Festival Opens May 28

Seoul metropolitan government will hold the 2002 Seoul Drum Festival at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from May 28 to June 5, moving up the dates of the festival, which is usually held every October, in consideration for the 2002 World Cup finals. In addition the festival has been expanded from three to ten days, with 35 participants instead of 10, including 15 domestic groups and 20 from 15 countries such as France, Senegal and China.

The festival kicks off Tuesday at 7:30pm on a special stage outside the center for a three-hour concert, along with special shows at the World Cup Plaza, Yeouido Park and Insa-dong. The gala will present a variety of performances including traditional music from Africa, samba, reggae, jazz and traditional drumming from Korea, China and Japan.
