Sail Korea 2002 Ready to Move to Mokpo

Sails are up in Incheon, where tall ships from the world over gathered for Sail Korea 2002 an international sailing regatta taking place for the first time in the country. A total of 11 sailboats are currently docked at the port, boasting their eye-opening size. The vessels were first to arrive at Incheon, after some 17 of them departed the Japanese port city of Okinawa on May 8, as part of a goodwill tour to boost cooperation and cultural exchanges between the two co-hosting nations of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

In the past tall ship sailing was mainly for commercial purposes, but today, it provides a chance to experience life out on the ocean, which is all about teamwork and leadership. Currently vessels from five different countries namely, Korea, Japan, Russia, New Zealand and the Netherlands are opened to the public. Visitors can aboard each ship and get a second-hand experience of what it's like to be a sailor.

The multinational vessels are docked here at Incheon port until Sunday, and will be leaving for their next destination, Mokpo, South Jeolla Province then continue on to Busan, Tokyo and Yokohama until June 30.
