Traditional Korean Food Exhibition Opens

Korean dishes are expanding their presence in the international arena with kimchi exports last year marking US$68.7 million, while ginseng shipments amounted to two thousand tons, worth US%74.8 million. And with the final countdown underway for the World Cup, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has prepared a special event to help boost this ongoing export drive of Korean food; an exhibition held in the National Folk Museum of Korea called 'Korean Traditional Food and Culture,' which kicked off, Wednesday.

" Korean traditional food is delicious and also has high nutritional quality. This exhibition is held in a bid to introduce our traditional food to the international guests visiting Korea during the World Cup finals... and also to help these products make inroads into foreign markets," explained a ministry official.

The 25 items on display were designated as the best traditional food last November by the ministry, including liquors, kimchi, ginseng, Korean cookies and herbal drinks. The products are made in the traditional methods handed down from past generations using domestic agricultural ingredients.

"This is a great opportunity to learn about Korean culture and food, we've been here about two days, and we look forward to try many of the things that are shown here," opined one vistor.

The event runs until the end of June and organizers hope it will spice up the appetite of international visitors for Korean food.
