Namsan Wildflower Park opened Tuesday in the former Foreigners Apartment site, eight years after the demolition of the buildings in 1994. Part of the Namsan restoration project, the two-acre park features some 186 indigenous wild flowers and 98 tree varieties, including snowbells and ginger plants.
The Wildflower Garden showcases plants with seasonal blossoms, and botanical gardens and the eco-park gives educational opportunities to experience various kinds of plants. Some 80 pine trees from cities around the country are planted right above the swamp eco-park, creating the Pine Grove from Eight Provinces.
Near Namsam Park are the Arboretum, Namsan Exhibition Hall, and the Barefoot Walk, created in 1997, making the neighborhood an ideal place for family outings. The garden is open from 9:00am to 6:00pm all year round, while Namsan Exhibition Hall will hold a wild flower observation class every Saturday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Reservations are required to attend the class.
