Half of Country Have Cellular Phones
More than half of the country's population have cellular phones according to the National Statistics Office, which announced studies made on occupation, housing, and degree of intellectual information based on an investigation made last September, 2000. According to the studies, 50.5% of the population over five-years-old have a cellular phone, with nine out of ten university students and one out of two high school students possessing mobile communication devices.
Also, in regard to advancement of information-orientation, more than half of people (51%) over three years in age could use a computer, and 41.2% could use the Internet. The percentage of teens who could use computers was 90.4%.
Workers who stayed in a company for more than 10 years were less than 32.6%, while those staying for 10-15 years reached 17.7% and 15-20 years, only 6%. The Korea National Statistical Office analyzed that this was because more people changed their jobs, especially as voluntary retirement became popular after the financial crisis in 1997.
