Seoul District Criminal Court granted bail of W30 to Cho Hee-Jun former chairman of the Kookmin Ilbo and the last of newspaper owners held in custody during their trial for alleged tax evasion and embezzlement. The court said that there was no danger of Cho destroying evidence or fleeing the country and that as the trial would take some time its was only fair to allow his release.
Cho has been charged with evading tax of W2.5 billion and embezzling W800 million and was arrested on September 4. On October 4 the prosecution filed an additional charge of embezzling W17 billion.
