Chosun Ilbo Publisher Released on Bail

Seoul District Court ordered Tuesday the removal from custody of Bang Sang-hoon, the publisher and major shareholder of the Chosun Ilbo, who had been arrested and detained for alleged tax evasion, granting him immediate bail at W30 million. The court said that there is no risk of flight or the destruction of evidence and so his trial should be conducted without detention.

President-Publisher Bang was indicted on September 4 and had two hearings in court on October 15 and 24, when the prosecution demanded a seven-year jail sentence and W15 billion in fines.
