In a surprise move Friday afternoon, Seoul District Prosecutors Office made a request to submit more evidence and further question witnesses in the trial for alleged tax evasion and embezzlement of the president of the Chosun Ilbo, Bang Sang-hoon. The court was due to deliver its verdict on Monday and the rare move is seen as an attempt to delay the verdict.
President Bang was indicted on September 4 and had two hearings in court on October 15 and 24, when the prosecution demanded a seven-year jail sentence and W15 billion in fines.
