The National Tax Service announced Saturday the promotion of mid mid-level officials nationwide. Amongst those promoted were most of the officials from the Investigation Department of the NTS¡¯s Seoul Office who took part in the tax investigation of 23 media companies based in the capital. Lee Ju-seong, head of Investigation Department II of the Seoul office was made the chief of the Busan Tax Office and Kim Jeong-bok, Investigation Department III was made NTS planning chief.
Prior to this Yoo Hak-keun, head of Investigation Department IV was made chief of the Kwangju Office, while Chung Jin-taek, head of Investigation Department I is expected to be named in an important position with the central NTS.
The NTS also promoted officials in Departments I, II and IV who had reported media companies to the prosecution, including a director made regional office chief who was investigated by the Special Audit Team of the Prime Minister¡¯s Office for gambling.
Officials explained that the promotions were in accordance with the NTS policy of rotating staff, a move designed to fight corruption, and nothing to do with the media tax investigation.
