The Cyber Crime Investigation Team of Seoul Policy Agency arrested an office worker only identified as Seo of Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province and S mobile phone company employee Lee a friend of Seo from Buchun, also in Gyeonggi Province. Seo is charged with invasion of privacy and threatening with menaces while Lee has been accused of illegally revealing personal information to Seo. In addition, S mobile company has been charged with neglecting to ensure the protection of privacy of its clients.
According to police, Seo obtained his ex-girlfriend K's email and mobile account password from Lee and has been reading her email since last November. He also threatened K about the contents of her email after discovering she had been in contact with a man known as L via frequent phone calls. In addition Seo acquired L's information through Lee and is accused of invading his privacy as well.
The police investigation revealed that over 7,000 workers of S mobile telephone company had ID cards that let them read customer information; however, since no trace was left on inquiries, there was a risk of private information leaks in the current system.
In a preceding case last February, two women were arrested for obtaining their boyfriends' information from a friend who worked at mobile company.
