Artists Selected for Venice Bienale

Korean American artist Seo Do-ho and Michael Ju have been chosen to represent Korea at next year's Venice Biennale, it was announced Monday by Commissioner Park Kyung-mi of the Korean Pavilion. Seo got bachelors and master's degrees in oriental painting at Seoul National University and a masters degree from Yale University on plastic arts. He is now working in New York and is being spot-lighted for his installation art. Seo will also be given the opportunity to exhibit his works at the main pavilion.

Michael Ju is a second generation Korean American who was born and raised in the United States. He has already exhibited his work at the 1993 Venice Biennale and this year's Whitney Biennale of New York. Ju is familiar to Korean people as well for he has exhibited some of his works in the first Kwangju Biennale, Media City Seoul, and many others. Commissioner Park Kyung-mi said that she strategically chose these two young artists who are already globally known, because the Venice Biennale is indeed a world class event.

The two artists will visit the actual spot in late November to early December and come up with detailed plans for their art work.
