Broadcasting Unions Oppose Murdoch Satellite TV

The preparation committee for the National Broadcasters Union, composed of the unions of five broadcasting companies including KBS established an emergency committee with 15 media related organizations and announced it will begin the struggle to stop the Murdoch Digital Satellite TV program on Thursday. The committee said if the new government forces the opening of the satellite TV industry, it will mobilize every force to block it and are now busy studying how to effectively initiate such measures.

Rupert Murdoch, owner of Newscorp is to commence on a digital TV service, jointly with Dacom, broadcasting via satellite to the Korean peninsula and Manchuria, China. In an interview with the 'Chosun Ilbo' newspaper Friday, Murdoch announced that a commercial service offering seventy-five to eighty channels will be broadcast from March next year using a Dacom satellite scheduled for launch in October.
