Government to Stop KCTU General Strike
Labor Affairs Minister Lee Ki-ho said Wednesday in an emergency news conference that if the Korea Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) begins illegal activities including a general strike disregarding the national hope of implementing the 'Grand Compromise' between labor, management, and government, it will face severe punishment. In a vice ministerial meeting of the related ministers it was also agreed that if KCTU goes through with the illegal strike they will take strong countermeasures to establish law and order. Meanwhile the Seoul Subway Corporation Union withdrew its threat to strike scheduled to commence on Thursday, as the organization accepted an intermediatory plan proposed by the Seoul City Council that it would drop the 5.1 billion won lawsuit against the executives of the union.
